Volunteer Week: Daniel Reilly
From the 3rd of June to 9th of June it is National Volunteer Week, and SCDF want to shine a light on some of the fantastic volunteers that are helping our community clubs thrive!
Our first Spotlight is on Daniel Reilly. Daniel coaches at Newton Storm ARLFC. He takes on a couple of different roles in the club such as u13’s Coach and Girls Coach. Our spotlights have been provided by a representative of Newton Storm and here is what they have to say about Daniel:
“Dan has been with the club playing for a number of years before he started out coaching with our U13s when they were at cubs. Over the years Dan has been instrumental in assisting in re-organizing an open age team at Storm when we went so long without one.”
“Whilst being a player, Dan is constantly organising the training sessions, fundraising for away coaches and a lot of behind the scene functions that team admins do which often goes unnoticed by the open-age players.
In the past 12 months, Dan has also started a girls-only session on Saturday mornings with the aim to develop girls’ teams at Newton Storm.”
“Dan again completes all the admin necessary behind the scenes and hosts the sessions without the support of any other coaches before going on to train with the 13s and then on to his open age match. As a committee we would like to nominate Dan as a small gesture of thanks for this long commitment to the club and sport.”
“Everything that Dan does is to develop the club further and ensure we keep going for many years to come, whilst working full time and often away during the week. Even when working away, he the still doing all the chasing for the teams mentioned above.”
“Our girls numbers are steadily increasing and it is Dans aim to have one or two girls teams playing friendlies by the end of the year with a full team to be registered in 2025 for league fixtures.”
Without Dan, our open age team would be in total chaos with little organisation. Without Dan, training sessions would be cancelled and player committment for fixtures would be limited.
“Without Dan, our girls sessions would not exist and without him driving the girls teams we would struggle due to the lack of volunteers willing to take it on.”
At SCDF we recognise how important volunteers are to the running of community clubs and without people like Daniel involved clubs would struggle to survive. So from SCDF we say thank you Daniel Reilly for the impact you are having at Newton Storm.
