St Helens Player Association to partner with St Helens Schools competitions
The boys and girls competitions will start with the St Helens Cups in September and progress to the North West competitions before the winners progress to the National competitions later in the school year.
St Helens local schools have been successful in the last few years and we are excited to carry on that success into the 2022-23 academic year.
Harry Pinner Chair of the Players Association said: “We all grew up playing Rugby League in our schools around St Helens and all wanted to play for Saints. We still have the memories of playing against some of the greatest players to play our game in schools’ games and we need to give the children of the town the same opportunities and fuel for their ambition. The foundation does a great job in the Community, and this is our way of supporting the work they do and helping in the way we think best.”
Steve Leonard Director of the foundation stated: “This is a marvelous gesture from a great bunch of people. Every time the foundation asks anything of the Players Association, they are fully behind us, I cannot thank them enough. This will help us to keep improving our schools’ competitions and ensuring all our children can represent themselves, the school and hopefully onto wearing the Red V following in the footsteps of our Players association members. I and everyone associated with the Foundation would like to thank each and every member of the Players Association for this wonderful gesture.”
Tommy Frodsham of the players association said: “We see grass roots rugby as an important piece in the jigsaw, especially in our own town. We are a Rugby League town and have pride in the fact that we produce good quality players from within our own community and our schools. If we can help this conveyor belt to continue, we are playing our part in keeping our club at the top of the pile.”
The Saints Community Development Foundation wish the best of luck to all the schools taking part and a massive thank you to the teachers who allow it all happen.
