SCDF to Launch PDRL Side!
The Saints Community Development Foundation (SCDF) is pleased to announce the relaunch of our Physcial Disability Rugby League side!
Ahead of our Inclusion Round Double Header this Friday, the Club and the SCDF are thrilled to announce that PDRL will be making it’s return with the Saints Community Development Foundation, after years out of the game!
The SCDF will be re-launching its own PDRL side, increasing and building on an already successful Learning Disability Rugby League side. Our Saints PDRL side will start off with in-house competition and games as we look to build our team, whilst introducing and allowing more people the chance to take part in the sport of Rugby League!
SCDF Director Steve Leonard commented on the return of PDRL, saying: “We are delighted to announce the return of the PDRL Saints! The opportunity to restart our PDRL side is something we are eager to do, and have been looking to do for a while now.
“Seeing the success of our LDRL side, we want to continue this success with our PDRL team and continue building and developing our inclusion within Rugby League. We look forward to the start of our PDRL side, and look forward to another team representing the Red V!”
So, what is PDRL and how is it played?
Physical Disability Rugby League is a full contact version of the sport which is adapted for participants with a physical disability.
It is a nine-a-side version of Rugby League, with full contact tackles, but for players who have a disability that restricts them from safely playing full contact are permitted to play Touch RL rules – and these players are identified by wearing red shorts.
The main emphasis from Saints will be to ensure even more people get to play in the famous Red V, and above all else – have fun!
