Saints support World Mental Health Awareness Day

In support of St Helens Borough Council, St.Helens R.F.C. is proud to support breaking down the stigmas surrounding mental health and encouraging open dialogue, today on World Mental Health Awareness Day (10th October).

St Helens Borough Council have produced a series of short films that explore men’s mental health, with our First Team players Konrad Hurrell and Jake Wingfield featured, alongside twelve other men from different backgrounds and of different ages.

‘Koni’ and ‘Wingy’ share an open and honest conversation sat in the stands or our home ground – the Totally Wicked Stadium – where so many people come to enjoy the rugby league and could speak to family, friends, or fellow supporters about their mental health struggles.

All the men in the film series share their personal battles, showing how mental health struggles can be wide ranging or various. These films will be shared across St Helens Borough Council’s social media platforms, and shared the Saints’ club channels too and we encourage all to watch if possible.

There is a need for more men to speak up, seek help and to support one another, with suicide being the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK alone. Whilst suicides among teenage girls and young women has almost doubled in recent years.

No matter your scenario, your mental health matters. ❤️

If you can do one thing on World Mental Health Awareness Day, please take some time to check-in with yourself or someone you know. Talking about our struggles can help us with life’s ups and downs.

The Saints were proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week back in May, highlighting ‘Five Ways To Wellbeing’ which may prove helpful to you: CONNECT – GET ACTIVE – TAKE NOTICE – LEARN – GIVE.

The St Helens Borough Council website has a whole host of services and resources regarding Mental Health Support which you can read more about by clicking here.
