Fans begin donations at Shining Lights Centre – OFA ATU TONGA

The Club kick started the Tonga initiative by supplying 250 shirts from our existing stock as well as pairs of boots and equipment earlier in the week – watch that by clicking here.

After launching the Tonga relief project earlier this week, we have seen huge numbers of support and positivity with fans already donating rugby clothing and equipment to the cause.

A number of generous rugby league fans have also donated to the cause by the way of the Just Giving Fundraising page which can be accessed here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/SaintsSupportingTonga

For those that missed the big reveal, the Club launched an initiative which will see replica shirts and sports equipment sent to Tonga to help provide children with vital clothing and resources after the island was devastated recently following a Tsunami.

The Club also plans a hive of Tongan themed activity at the Saints vs Warrington clash on Friday 11 March with more details revealed in due course.

St Helens have three Tongan players in our squad – Konrad Hurrell, Will Hopoate and Agnatius Paasi whilst our Head Coach Kristian Woolf is also the Tongan National Coach and St Helens as a town will host Tonga at the Rugby League World Cup in 2022. Club Chaplain, Paul Johnson will also be the Tongan national team’s Chaplain during the RLWC.

Hurrell, Hopoate, a former Tongan captain, and Paasi have all been personally affected with family living in Tonga with Hurrell in particular unable to contact his loved ones for days following the disaster.
